Kin, Daniele Fortuna, 2020

Daniele Fortuna was born in Milan, Italy in 1981. After graduating from the European Institute of Design in Milan, and spending a few years abroad studying art in Ireland, Fortuna moved back to Italy.

Inspired by the Italian art he grew up with, Fortuna began to imagine the story behind the paintings. He felt attracted to the objects and elements in the paintings by artists like Giorgio De Chirico, Aligi Sassu and Lucio Fontana. Fortuna interprets those elements by giving them the third dimension while ''contaminating'' them with contemporary color. The sculptures connect the old tradition of Italian painting with a pop-art way of expression.

"The timelessness of De Chirico, the inflamed reds of Sassu, the gestures of Fontana. I was beginning to feel the charm of all this and I was moved by the generosity of these artists who had chosen to share their moods, their fears, their passions ... My works are made up of wooden blocks, colored and assembled like a puzzle, after a methodical and patient work of serration and painting. The natural material is treated, transformed, until it seems other than itself. This is how I create my works in my studio-laboratory in Piacenza which now smells like paint and wood." (Daniele Fortuna, Artist / Piacenza, Italy)
